When there are figs it’s time for fig jam! It’s super easy to make just boil figs, sugar, lemon and spice it up with cardamon or cloves too!

Super simple Fig Jam. Just figs, sugar, and lemon.

Ingredients

  • 300 g black figs ~ 1 lb
  • 150 g caster sugar
  • 1 juice of a lime
  • 1/4 tsp ground cardamon

Instructions

  • Sterilize glass jars by boiling in water. Let cool down and dry.
  • Dice figs.

  • In a 1 qt nonstick saucepan, add 2 tbs of water. Toss the diced figs, sugar, cardamon and stir.
  • Bring to a light boil, stir occasionally and simmer over moderate heat. The figs will release water.
  • Continue cooking until jam turns shiny and you can draw a line in the spoon without the liquid running.
  • Transfer the jam into glass jars and leave a bit of space at the top. Close the jars and tightly. Store for up to 3 months in refrigerator.

  • For longer storage boil closed jars in water for 5 min. Cool upside down at room temperature.
